Khortytsia has become the most excellent barrier-free tourist object.
Khortytsia is the largest island in the Dnipro river. The island forms part of the Khortytsia national park. This historic site is located within the city limits of Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.
The restoration of cultural and historical heritage sites on the island of Khortitsa within the framework of the Big restoration program, which is part of president Volodymyr Zelensky’s Big construction program, began this year. Before this, numerous objects on the island were in disrepair. In just a few months, the island was turned into one of the most potent tourist magnets, while access to its facilities was provided to all population groups.
The participants of the competition were evaluated in 14 nominations. The competition organizers assessed the work of the best market players in continuing to work in a pandemic, applying non-standard solutions, increasing the level of service, and paying attention to inclusive tourism.
Khortytsia became the first barrier-free island in Ukraine, which parents can visit with strollers and people with disabilities.
The first lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, at the beginning of work on Khortytsia, noted the need to ensure access to its facilities for all groups of the population without exception.
"The philosophy of Khortitsa's barrier-freeness is for the island to share its strength with everyone — constantly, easily and everywhere," said Olena Zelenska.
The Ukraine tourism awards 2021 award for inclusiveness has become the third for Khortytsia this year.
