What happened
In Berlin, the Kyiv Investment Forum has started its work — this year it is jointly organized by the city authorities of Kyiv and Berlin. Mayor Vitali Klitschko noted that the forum is held under the motto “Investing in resilience. Shaping the future” and brings together representatives of European cities, business and international organizations to discuss how to finance the reconstruction of the Ukrainian capital and strengthen Europe’s common security and sustainability.
Why the forum is important
-
Kyiv has a large portfolio of projects that must be implemented even during the war: transport, energy, water supply, social infrastructure.
-
European partners are ready to support projects that increase the resilience of the city — decentralization of energy, modernization of utilities, shelters, digital services.
-
A separate focus is on cooperation between municipalities: Berlin and Kyiv show that cities can launch practical projects faster than big international programs.
What Kyiv wants to attract money for
-
restoration and strengthening of critical infrastructure;
-
modernization of public transport and urban mobility;
-
energy-efficiency and distributed generation projects;
-
development of business and industrial zones that will create jobs.
Political signal
Holding the forum in an EU capital together with Berlin shows that Ukraine’s capital remains an active economic center despite the war. Kyiv is positioning itself not only as a recipient of aid, but also as a partner that can offer transparent projects, co-financing from the city budget and quick implementation.
