Latvia Announces New Military Aid Package for Ukraine, Including Armored Personnel Carriers

Latvia’s Prime Minister, Evika Siliņa, has announced a new military support package for Ukraine, which will include the delivery of armored personnel carriers

This was revealed by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a meeting in Kyiv on September 11, 2024.

"I am glad to welcome Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa to Kyiv. I thanked the Latvian government and people for their concrete and consistent steps to strengthen Ukraine. In particular, for the 'UAV Coalition for Ukraine' initiative and the provision of drones to our soldiers. During our meeting, Mrs. Siliņa announced another package of military support, including armored personnel carriers," Shmyhal stated.

In addition to military aid, Latvia is also contributing to Ukraine's energy needs. Prime Minister Siliņa confirmed that Latvia plans to supply solar panels to Ukrainian hospitals, helping to secure critical infrastructure during the ongoing conflict. Latvia’s support further extends to energy equipment and essential humanitarian assistance.

The discussions between the two leaders also focused on expanding cooperation between defense companies and strengthening Ukraine's military capabilities on the battlefield. Latvia has been a steadfast ally of Ukraine, providing continuous support for sanctions against Russia and backing Ukraine’s aspirations to integrate into the European Union and NATO.

The visit from Prime Minister Siliņa is part of ongoing efforts to solidify Latvia's role as a key partner to Ukraine. Previously, Latvia had made headlines for its decision to donate 20 confiscated vehicles to Ukraine, taken from individuals arrested for driving under the influence.

This latest aid package reinforces Latvia’s unwavering support for Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression, with tangible military, humanitarian, and energy contributions.
