Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds made the announcement, highlighting the effort as a crucial step in supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression.
"Latvia will participate in the Czech initiative, introduced by Czech President Petr Pavel, focusing on acquiring artillery ammunition for Ukraine. This action represents a significant opportunity to counteract Russia, and we are committed to doing everything within our power to assist Ukraine. United for victory!" Spruds expressed through a social media post on X (formerly Twitter).
During the Munich Security Conference, Czech President Petr Pavel emphasized the urgency of delivering weapons and ammunition to Ukraine. He mentioned the potential for securing 500,000 shells of 155mm caliber and 300,000 shells of 122mm caliber from third countries promptly, contingent upon securing the necessary funds.
