This was confirmed by the Latvian Ministry of Defense.
While the ministry did not disclose the exact number of armored vehicles to be transferred, it reiterated Latvia's commitment to providing military support to Ukraine amounting to at least 0.25% of its gross domestic product annually until 2026. Latvia has previously supplied Ukraine with various types of military equipment, including helicopters and self-propelled howitzers purchased from Austria.
The initial contract with the UK, signed in 2014, involved the delivery of 123 CVR(T) armored vehicles—116 of which were modernized and seven left without overhaul for training mechanics. The first vehicles arrived in Latvia in the fall of 2015. An additional agreement was made in 2019 for more armored vehicles.
Latvia is also in the process of replacing its CVR(T) vehicles. The Commander of the National Armed Forces, Leonid Kalnins, has indicated the need for new infantry fighting vehicles. Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds mentioned that the process of selecting new infantry fighting vehicles is in its final stages.
Beyond armored vehicles, Latvia has prepared a substantial batch of locally manufactured drones for Ukraine. Furthermore, Ukraine and Latvia have recently signed a memorandum of understanding on cybersecurity, which aims to establish a legal framework for cooperation and optimize the use of technical and human resources in this field.
