Lithuania to Support Ukraine with Air Defense Systems

Lithuania has announced its intention to provide additional air defense systems to Ukraine, according to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda

The announcement came through a statement on the X social network on Monday, May 6, following a discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

During the conversation, the leaders discussed the ongoing peace summit, the current situation on the front lines, and the military support for Ukraine. "All options for supporting Ukraine should remain on the table," Nauseda stated. He also expressed his appreciation for Germany's commitment to sending an extra Patriot system to Ukraine, confirming that Lithuania will also contribute the necessary systems.

This commitment aligns with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s call during his visit to Lithuania on the same day. Scholz, who also visited German troops soon to be part of a new Bundeswehr brigade in the country, emphasized the need for continued assistance to Ukraine, including air defense systems like the Patriot. "We have to ensure that Ukraine is provided with more air defense capabilities from the available reserves," Scholz urged.
