MBDA and Ukrainian Armored Vehicles plan joint defense development

The partners will explore deep strike systems, counter-drone solutions and possible production programs

European missile systems producer MBDA and the Ukrainian defense company Ukrainian Armored Vehicles have signed a memorandum of understanding. The agreement opens discussions on long-term cooperation in deep strike capabilities and counter-unmanned aircraft systems.

The companies say the partnership may include joint initiatives, knowledge exchange, development projects, production programs and the introduction of innovative technologies. One possible direction is the creation of a joint venture, though details are expected later.

European technology and Ukrainian combat experience

MBDA brings expertise in missile system development, production and lifecycle support. Ukrainian Armored Vehicles contributes practical experience in design, integration and manufacturing of armored vehicles, mortar systems, ammunition, artillery rounds, ground and aerial unmanned systems and components.

The cooperation is important because Ukraine needs both long-range strike tools and stronger defenses against drones. Combining European engineering with Ukrainian battlefield experience could help create systems adapted to current combat realities faster than a purely imported solution.

For the defense industry, the memorandum reflects a broader shift: Ukraine’s partners are moving from simple deliveries toward industrial cooperation. If the projects advance, they could strengthen domestic production autonomy and deepen Ukraine’s integration into the European defense ecosystem.
