A meeting of high-ranking representatives of the two states started today: Ukrainian prime minister Denys Shmyhal and German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier. According to the PM of Ukraine, the main topics of the upcoming dialogue are "weapons, finances, sanctions, Russia's provocations at the ZNPP, our integration into the EU, the victory and restoration of Ukraine."
To defeat Russia, Ukraine needs more modern weapons and allies. MARS II and Panzerhaubitze 2000, which Ukraine received from Germany, brought tremendous positive results to our state. Therefore, Denys Shmyhal expressed hope that Germany would continue to supply defence systems to Ukraine. German IRIS-Ts are due to arrive in Ukraine this fall, and the representative of Ukraine hopes that Germany will top the list of countries that provide Ukraine with air defence systems.
Financial support. Denys Shmyhal said that Ukraine will receive €5 billion this week from the European Union to "ensure the stability of our economy, support the army and get through the heating season." Separately, prime minister Shmyhal expressed the hope that Germany would join and lead the countries that would participate in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. The immediate reconstruction of critical infrastructure can begin now.
In turn, German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that Germany, side by side, accompanies Ukraine on the path of its victory over the Russian war.
We also remind you that Denys Shmyhal will meet with German development minister Svenja Schulze to discuss a €200 million tranche to help Ukrainian internal refugees.
