The history of its development is connected with many important historical events and processes that took place on Ukrainian territory. Metal processing had developed intensively during Ancient Times, especially at the time of the Scythians (II-III centuries BC).
20% of the world's iron ore reserves are located on the territory of Ukraine. Ukraine ranks first in the world in terms of iron ore reserves, and seventh in terms of production. Nowadays, the main clusters of metal mining in Ukraine are Donbas, the Luhansk region, Zaporizhia, and Dnipro region.
More than 800 large and small invest.com/investing-in-ukraine/starting-business-in-ukraine/build-an-enterprise/" rel="dofollow">enterprises are located on the territory of Ukraine, including 19 large metallurgical plants and plants, 12 pipe plants, over 20 hardware enterprises, and more than 100 scrap metal processing enterprises. Ukraine extracts metal and processes it into steel, cast iron, and other products.
In the first half of 2021 Ukraine exported:
- Pig iron smelting amounted to 10.790 million tons;
- Steel smelting — 10.859 million tons;
- Rolled metal production — 9.625 million tons.
In the first 6 months of 2021, the export of pig iron, ferroalloys, scrap metal equaled 3.04 million tons, which is 20.8% higher than the same period in 2020.
Exports of raw iron ore amounted to 29.8 million tons.
According to statistics, metallurgical raw materials accounted for 23% of the total export aggregate (the lowest indicator), rolled steel — 41.1% (the highest indicator).
In the first half of the year, Ukraine exported 13.2 million tons of ferrous metal (4.9% more than in the same period last year). Thus, the state's income from the export of the FM amounted to $8.9 billion.
Raw materials and products from Ukrainian metal not only fully cover the domestic demand, but are also exported all over the world. Just imagine: all factories in Ukraine are built exclusively from material mined in our country.
Due to all these reasons, our country gained a reputation as an excellent place to do business.
The modern policy of development of mining regions involves the transition to modern and environmentally friendly industrial equipment, minimization of emissions into the atmosphere, as well as an increase in the level of metal processing in favor of the domestic consumer.
