Dutch Initiative for Ukrainian Agriculture
The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) has announced targeted support for Ukraine’s agricultural sector, focusing on precision farming, post-harvest processing, and market access.
Acknowledging Ukraine’s wartime challenges — including labor shortages, irrigation difficulties, and logistical disruptions — Dutch experts stress that Ukraine still holds untapped potential in new high-value crops and sustainable practices.
Study on New Opportunities
At the request of RVO, Schuttelaar & Partners and Agri & Food Support Altena B.V. conducted a study, “Growing and Developing Chains of New Crops in Ukraine”, which outlined growth areas where Dutch knowledge and technology can be applied:
-
New crops: sweet potatoes, leeks, field peas.
-
Expanded production: peas for starch and soybeans for food, meeting the rising demand for plant proteins.
-
Fiber crops: flax and hemp, scalable for export and valuable for soil restoration.
Investment & Cooperation Formats
Dutch companies are invited to participate in Ukraine’s transformation through:
-
Farmer training and consulting in precision agriculture.
-
Supplying advanced machinery, irrigation systems, and digital farming solutions.
-
Partnerships in production and processing chains, enabling export of high-margin products.
-
Sustainable practices, including soil restoration and circular agriculture models.
👉 This creates multiple vectors of investment: from agri-tech suppliers and irrigation system providers to processors, exporters, and sustainability consultants.
Broader Context of International Support
-
In May 2025, Canada’s NGO SOCODEVI began consultations on a new project to support Ukrainian farmers.
-
In July 2025, Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) signed an agreement on a technical cooperation program.
The Dutch initiative adds to this momentum, emphasizing European integration of Ukraine’s agro-sector and positioning it for higher-value exports.
Outlook
With Dutch expertise in precision farming, high-yield crop varieties, and sustainable soil management, Ukraine can not only overcome wartime constraints but also build a modern, resilient agricultural sector ready to compete in EU and global markets.
📌 Conclusion: For foreign investors, Ukraine’s agri-sector offers a clear entry point — backed by European know-how, demand for plant proteins, and the potential to scale new crops like sweet potatoes, flax, and hemp.
