On July 27, Andrii Kostin was appointed to the post of the new prosecutor general of Ukraine. The day after his appointment, Kostin set a new head of the SAP — former detective of the National anti-corruption bureau Olexandr Klymenko.
"Today, the head of the Specialized anti-corruption prosecutor's office was appointed. Oleksandr Klymenko was declared the winner of an honest selection by the contest commission and approved by the new prosecutor general Andrii Kostin immediately after his appointment," the head of the office of the president Andrii Yermak.
The appointment of the head of the SAPO was one of the conditions for Ukraine's accession to the European Union. While granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate, Ursula von der Leyen stressed the need to appoint a specialist to the position of head of the SAPO and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Oleksandr Klymenko was selected for the position through a state competition. On July 19, the commission published the results, and Klymenko scored the most points.
