Norway and EBRD to Provide Ukraine $152 Mln

On November 21, an agreement was signed on Ukraine’s acquisition of natural gas during the winter of 2022-2023

The government of Norway has decided to allocate $152 million from the budget. To this end, the state has signed an agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to provide financing. This proves once again that Norway is one of the most important allies and donors of the EBRD for Ukraine.

This amount will be transferred through the EBRD and should be used by the Ukrainian side to purchase natural gas for winter. In July, Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gare Store announced a call to Ukraine to buy energy carriers. The representative of Oslo said that the government would allocate $913 million to Ukraine in the next 1.5 years. Of these, $152 million was immediately provided for gas purchases for Ukrainian Naftogaz.

Ukraine is aware that more than 14 billion m3 of gas is in storage – enough for winter. However, the Russian military command is treacherous and can begin to strike the gas infrastructure for almost 2 months with the energy component of Ukraine.

Therefore, prime minister Denys Shmyhal has expressed gratitude to Norway and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for financial assistance and the possibility of having reserve fuel sources.
