Norway Confirms Full Delivery of F-16s to Ukraine by End of 2025

Norway will complete the transfer of all six promised F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine by the end of 2025, Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik confirmed in an interview with NRK

The transfer is proceeding according to plan,” Sandvik stated, noting that while some aircraft have already been delivered, the exact number remains classified to ensure Ukraine’s operational security.

Key Details:

  • Total promised F-16s: 6

  • Delivery timeline: Completion by end of 2025

  • Additional military aid: 1.3 billion NOK (~€112 million) allocated in 2024 for air defense enhancement

The F-16s are a significant addition to Ukraine’s defense capabilities, bolstering the country’s ability to respond to persistent aerial and missile threats from Russia.

International Support Grows

Norway’s support is part of a broader international coalition effort. In April 2025, U.S. European Command chief General Christopher Cavoli confirmed that additional F-16s from partner countries would also be transferred to Ukraine.

Incident Reported

On May 16, Ukraine’s Air Force reported an emergency situation during a combat mission involving an F-16. The pilot successfully ejected, and the aircraft was diverted away from populated areas, underscoring the risks and intensity of ongoing operations.

The delivery of F-16s represents a critical step in Ukraine’s efforts to modernize its air fleet and counter Russian aggression with Western-standard military capabilities.
