On 24 February, Russia launched a criminal war against Ukraine. Therefore, the Ukrainian government decided to stop the purchase of fuel from the aggressor country and to develop its gas potential. Norway wants to help to facilitate the heating season and help Ukrainians who suffer from Russian aggression.
On August 29, a press release announced that the Norwegian government had announced financial aid for Ukraine. Norway wants to donate $180.000 to provide heat to Ukrainians. Ukraine for this money will be able to provide themselves with gas for one heating season.
"The war has made Ukraine in need of immediate external support. Ukraine asked Norway to take the lead in providing access to energy. We are monitoring the situation and propose to spend 2 billion kroner on gas purchases by Ukrainians in autumn and winter," said Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gar Stere.
It is noted that financial support will help to maintain warmth in schools and hospitals.
Recall that the prime minister of Norway was in Kyiv in July. After that, Norway announced that it would provide Kyiv with the financial support of up to $905 billion in 2022 and 2023.
