Norwegian defence minister Bjorn Arild Gram said Russia continues launching missile attacks on Ukraine's critical and civilian infrastructure. Therefore, Ukraine repeatedly asked for modern air defence systems. Initially, Norway provided only equipment for NASAMS systems. But now Oslo is ready to hand over 2 defence systems to Ukraine. The systems will be supplied to Ukraine in cooperation with the USA. The total in Ukraine will be 4 NASAMS with the new aid.
In addition, Oslo has announced a multi-year support program. As part of the program, Norway will annually assist Ukraine in the amount of $1.6 billion for four years. It is already known that in 2023 part of the financial support will be directed to military aid.
"The war had huge consequences. Tens of thousands of Ukrainian citizens and soldiers were killed. Millions were forced to leave their homes. Most of the country has become a ruin. Destruction is difficult to understand. Having seen it with my own eyes, I was deeply impressed," said Norwegian defence minister Gram.
Note that all Norwegian decisions were announced last week during the Gram meeting with the Ukrainian president and defence minister Reznikov.
