Over 300 Animals Drowned in Local Zoo of Nova Kakhovka

Undermining the Kakhovka dam led to flooding that killed all the inhabitants of the zoo "Kazkova Dubrava"

Ukrainian animal protection organization UAnimals reported on the first consequences of the terrorist attack of the Russian Federation on the Kakhovka reservoir. The organization received data from a zoo called Kazkova Dubrava in the area near the explosion. It is reported that nothing is left in the occupied zoo that would help the animals survive. A wave from a hydroelectric power plant completely flooded Kazkova Dubrava. Buffalo, monkeys, raccoons, ponies, nutria, porcupines, marmots, crows and others were killed. Only the ducks and swans survived. Also, a service lady Oof the zoo took several parrots, a flying squirrel, ferrets, chinchillas and guinea pigs to her home and thus saved their lives.

The zoo has been occupied since the beginning of the war. Zoo workers report that the occupants first mined the area and then – prohibited to evacuate the animals. On June 6, 2023, the Russian army launched an attack that resulted in the death of all animals. It is also unknown how many homeless animals, livestock and other pets drowned due to the negligence of the Russian army.

The Russian Federation continues to destroy Ukraine. They kill children, adults, and animals. This ecocide and genocide has been going on for more than a year. The full effects of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant are still unknown. When the water's gone, there'll be hundreds of dead animals on the ground that don't deserve this fate.
