Overcoming Corruption in the Courts of Ukraine

Zelenskyy ratified the decision on methods of combating corruption in the courts and strengthening responsibility for the illegal activity of court employees

On June 30, the president enacted the conclusion of the National Security and Defense Council On accelerating judicial reform and overcoming manifestations of corruption in the justice system. This step is crucial on the path of European integration of Ukraine and, of course, is included in the 7 recommendations of the European Commission.

The president and the National Security and Defense Council are appealing to the supreme court of Ukraine demanding amendments to the criminal code of Ukraine:

  • Criminal liability for participation in corruption schemes. Liability of judges for bribery 10-15 years in prison;
  • Expansion of the jury and increase their participation in the courts;
  • Disciplinary review of each judge of the supreme court and his property;
  • Primary and regular polygraph testing of judges.

The reformation will restore confidence in the judicial institutions of Ukraine and return them to a dominant law status.
