Peatlands Are Burning Near Kyiv

Due to the ignition of peat deposits in the Kyiv region, the concentration of PM2.5 particulate matter in the air of Kyiv is now 25.2 times higher than normal

Today Kyiv is suffocating again. Due to the regular (characteristic of the hot summer of Ukraine) ignition of peat deposits in the Kyiv region, residents of the capital are advised not to open windows and, if possible, not to go outside.

Near Kyiv, the elimination of 2 peat fires continues near the village of Sosnovka, Vyshgorodskyy district and the village of The 1st of May, Brovarskyy district. Due to fires, the level of PM2.5 particulate matter in the air of the capital is 25.2 times higher than the norm set by the Ministry of health of Ukraine.

Because of this, Kyiv reached the top in the ranking of capitals with a polluted atmosphere, leaving behind Bogota, Jakarta, Lima, Kuwait and Sarajevo. According to the State emergency services of Ukraine, the situation with burning peat deposits is under control, and the fire does not spread to other territories.
