Ministry clarifies plant variety requirements for horticulture and greenhouse grants

Grant funded planting must use varieties listed in official registers

Ukraine’s ministry published practical clarification on plant variety requirements for grant recipients in horticulture, berry farming, viticulture, and greenhouse production. The core rule is straightforward: planting material financed by grants must be based on varieties included in the official state variety register or in the patent register for plant varieties.

The clarification aims to reduce application errors and align grant implementation with legal criteria from the approved government procedure. For businesses, this means compliance should be checked before procurement and planting schedules are finalized.

What applicants need to verify

  • whether the selected variety is present in the relevant state register
  • whether patent status and variety records are valid at the time of application
  • whether planting material documentation matches declared project plans

Important exception

Decorative plants grown in greenhouses are treated separately and do not follow the same variety listing requirement in this context.

Why this clarification matters

Grant programs in horticulture and greenhouse development are capital intensive, so regulatory mismatches can delay projects and financing. Early register checks help avoid rejection risks, protect timelines, and improve audit readiness for recipients.
