President’s Talks With the Venice Commission Delegation

Zelenskyy and chairman of the Venice Commission Claire Bazi Malori discussed judicial reform

Ukraine is now have 2 battles: with the Russian aggressor and the old management system. For Ukraine to join the EU, there are many reform paths to go through, and one of them is strengthening the judiciary, which has already begun. Against this background, the delegation of the Venice Commission came to Kyiv. During the meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the head of the commission helped to better know the intricacies of the competitive selection to the Constitutional Court. Politicians considered the preparation and implementation of legislation for the selection procedures for the post of chief judge.

"Ukraine, for the first time, introduces a competitive procedure for the selection of judges of the Constitutional Court. This is a historic reform," said the head of the country.

Such interaction between Ukraine and the Venice Commission reflects the country's readiness to provide quality reforms that meet the conditions and standards of Europe.

In addition, another important issue was raised for discussion at the meeting. It concerns the enactment of Ukrainian laws on deoligarchisation and national minorities. These issues are also important for Ukraine's accession to the European Union. The leaders of the state and the bulk of conscious people are ready for qualitative changes.

At the end of the meeting, Zelenskyy thanked the head of the commission Claire Bazy Malaurie for cooperation and consultations on improving legislation.
