Redistribution of EU Funds for Refugees and the Member States

On April 4, the EU Council unveiled a plan to redistribute the budget of ESIF, FEAD, REACT-EU, and unused EU funds totaling €17 billion

The European Council has published on its website a list of new taxes on legislation that allow victims of the war in Ukraine and their host countries to use funds from specialized funds. Accumulated resources will provide refugees with basic elements of social protection: insurance, housing, food, education, etc.

"The EU Council has adopted legislation that allows member states to redirect resources from the Regional Development Fund and the European Aid Fund for the Most Deprived (FEAD) to help refugees fleeing Russian military aggression against Ukraine. The rapid adoption of these annexes to the legislation on the use of EU funds is a clear indication of the EU's solidarity with refugees from Ukraine and with the host Member States, especially on the border with Ukraine."

First of all, funds from these resources were painted

  • ESIF — European Structural and Investment Fund;
  • FEAD — European Aid Fund for the Most Deprived;
  • REACT-EU 2022 — civil protection program;
  • EU Internal Affairs Funds 2014-2020;
  • Funds of the budget for 2021-2027 for asylum and migration.
