A unique book, which is located in Izyum, Kharkiv region more than 300 years. This specimen has already survived World War II – the museum employees hid it in the ground near the museum building. In 2022 it was not possible to keep the gospel within its walls – Russian occupiers destroyed the museum. Gospel remained in a destroyed book block during the occupation. So, the ancient pages were damaged by fire, dust from the destroyed building, and improper storage conditions.
Now specialists of the Kharkiv department of the National research centre of Ukraine are engaged in the restoration of the gospel. They carry out conservation and restoration activities. This will help to stop the destructive processes.
The Ministry of culture and information policy reported that more than 1.100 cultural sites were destroyed during the year of the war. 466 objects of culture were utterly destroyed by the Russian army. Among the destroyed buildings were libraries (453), museums (41) and galleries (22). Many valuable books and paintings require restoration or cannot be restored.
