On 6 September, the secretary of state of America arrived in the capital of Ukraine. Blinken visited hospital Ohmatdet, where he met with children who became the victims of the Russian war and the famous service dog Patron. In addition, Blinken held official talks with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba and other political representatives of the country.
During the speech, the politicians discussed the external situation on the front, the state of the Ukrainian offensive against the invaders to liberate the territories.
"We have seen notable progress in the counteroffensive, and this is very encouraging. We want to make sure that Ukraine has everything it needs not only to succeed in a counterattack but also what it needs in the long term so that in the future such aggression will not be repeated," said Blinken.
The needs of the Ukrainian armed forces were also assessed. As part of the military discussion, Antony Blinken announced the transfer of a $175 million package. It included:
- Ammunition with deprived uranium for Abrams tanks;
- Equipment to support air defence systems;
- Ammunition for HIMARS;
- Artillery shells;
- Mortar systems;
- More than 3 million rounds of ammunition.
Recall that the US secretary of state remains in Ukraine today, as he has a two-day visit scheduled. Antony Blinken visits Ukraine for the first time since the counteroffensive and stays overnight in a country without security guarantees due to Russia.
