The German defense concern Rheinmetall is set to establish a joint production facility for air defense systems in Ukraine, according to the company’s CEO, Armin Papperger

Papperger made the announcement at the annual general meeting, stating that Rheinmetall plans to launch another joint venture in Ukraine focused on air defense. Additionally, the company is committed to delivering 40 Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, starting this month and continuing through September.

While the exact timeline for the commencement of production was not provided, Papperger indicated that it could take at least another year or two before operations begin. Further details about the joint venture were not disclosed.

Rheinmetall's Cooperation with Ukraine

In March 2024, Rheinmetall revealed plans to construct at least four production plants in Ukraine for manufacturing weapons. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, one of these plants has already started operations, producing military equipment products in collaboration with partner countries and incorporating Ukrainian components.

Furthermore, in April, Rheinmetall announced the transfer of an additional 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, underscoring the deepening defense cooperation between the two nations.
