This announcement was made by Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall, during an event at the Düsseldorf-Boss Industrial Club. Papperger highlighted that the concern plans to supply Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of rounds, including these advanced long-range prototypes.
According to Defense Express, a military portal, the prototypes are likely of the 155-caliber Vulcano artillery projectile, which can travel up to 70 kilometers. This capability was hinted at last year when Germany began transferring laser illuminators to Ukraine for use with the Vulcano system.
The move comes as Rheinmetall continues to support Ukraine’s defense efforts. Earlier in April, the company announced the forthcoming transfer of 20 additional Marder infantry fighting vehicles, ordered by the German government in March, expected to be delivered in 2024. Furthermore, at the end of March, the European Union provided Rheinmetall with financial aid exceeding 130 million euros to ramp up ammunition production, addressing a critical need for Ukraine.
