Romania Transfers Patriot Missile Defense System to Ukraine

Romania has officially transferred the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine, following the approval of a law signed by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Thursday, September 5

Romania has agreed to transfer one of its two active Patriot systems to Ukraine under the condition that its allies will replace it with another system in the future.

The initial announcement was made on June 20 by President Iohannis, indicating Romania’s commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities. On August 30, Romania's Ministry of National Defense submitted a draft law to Parliament proposing the transfer.

The legislative process moved swiftly, with the upper house of the Romanian Parliament passing the law on September 2, followed by approval from the lower house on September 3. Nicoleta Pauliuk, head of the Senate Defense Committee, remarked, “With this donation, Romania once again demonstrated that we are a security provider in this area.”

This move further solidifies Romania's role in supporting Ukraine's defense efforts amidst ongoing Russian aggression.
