Bern is ready to represent Kyiv’s diplomatic interests in Moscow. But the Kremlin did not appreciate this
Ukraine has severed diplomatic interests with Russia because of the start of a full-scale invasion. So Bern and Kyiv agreed that Switzerland would represent Ukraine’s diplomatic interests in an unfriendly country. Switzerland is already the representative of Georgia and Russia in both countries and defending America’s interests in Iran. Now the countries are waiting for the consent of the Russian side.
"Ukraine expressed the wish that Switzerland represents interests in Russia. The relevant negotiations have been completed. For this agreement to come into force, Russia must express its consent," said the spokesman of the Swiss Ministry of foreign affairs Pierre-Alain Elchinger.
However, Russia is in no hurry to respond to the desire of Ukraine and the world to solve cases at the table and papers that would matter. Moreover, the Russian MFA has already given a short statement.
"As Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said earlier that Russia is not ready to consider offers of mediation in negotiations with Ukraine from countries that have joined anti-Russian sanctions. We believe that Swiss neutrality has been devalued to a certain extent because the confederation has taken over all the packages of illegitimate anti-Russian restrictions of the European Union, in fact occupying one of the parties to the conflict," the Russian MFA.
Also, Russia has already managed to include Switzerland in the list of unfriendly countries.
