With the arrival of Russian sub-people on the territory of Ukraine, people do not know whether to hide under the ground because of the Russian Federation's nuclear threats or build houses on piles. On 20 October, the invaders committed new atrocities in the occupied territories. The Russian military mined the dam, citing that the Ukrainians want to blow up a large reservoir to destroy pontoon ferries and people remaining in the Kherson region.
The reservoir is located on the territory of 3 regions: Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro. The length of the dam is 3,850 km, and the height of the walls — is 16.5 m. These walls hold 18.18 km³ of water. Before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the reservoir employed 251 people, and the town Nova Kakhovka was built in 5 km from the dam for employees.
"The dam's rupture will mean a major catastrophe. This may destroy, among other things, the possibility of water supply from the Dnipro to the Crimea. The North Crimean channel will simply disappear if the dam of the Kakhovske reservoir is destroyed. And if Russia is preparing such a terrorist attack, if it seriously considers such a scenario, it means that terrorists are very well aware that they are not only not to keep Kherson, but also the whole south of our country, in part the Crimea," Volodymyr Zelenskyy told in a daily address.
Blowing up the dam, as well as the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, will not give the Kremlin an advantage and will not save Russian soldiers from the Ukrainian offensive. If the reservoir's work is disrupted, the civilian population and occupiers will again suffer. The entire volume of water from one of the largest water reservoirs in the country will spill, not the left bank of the river Dnipro. It is on this side of the river that the occupiers leave because of the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian army. Ukraine once again condemned the actions of the RF and the stupid execution of all orders by Russian soldiers.
Zelenskyy called on European peans and political leaders to respond to such steps of aggressors. e noted that the principle of preventive response to threats to security should become one of the basic principles for international policy.
