"While Russians desire to fight in Europe, they have nothing to do here as tourists," said consul Karel Burger Dirven.
Karel Burger Dirven expressed this opinion to journalists in the Hague. In his view, the ban on the entry of Russians is a potent signal for the aggressor. Therefore, the Netherlands should stop issuing visas to citizens of the Russian Federation. The politician noted that he fully supports the ideas of Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding Russian travel to peaceful Europe.
"This will remind potential Russian tourists that the invasion has turned Russia into an exile state and a return to normal life is possible only after the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. Russia has launched a war against Ukraine, a country whose right to exist is categorically denied by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Russia as a whole, and not only Putin and his entourage, should bear collective responsibility and feel the consequences of this war," said the honorary consul of Ukraine in the Netherlands.
This is not the first influential person to advocate the absence of silent Russians in European countries. However, the United Nations recently stated that imposing a complete ban on the issuance of tourism will be problematic because of the different views of countries.
