Ukrainian garlic producers face a shortage of quality seed material, while the market is increasingly filled with products of unclear origin.
Serhii Parashchenko, founder of Chystyi Produkt, said the lack of verified planting stock is a key reason for slow sector development.
He noted that professional seed garlic from leading European countries has not been imported in recent years. Instead, the market is dominated by batches that may have been rejected in countries of origin.
As a result, farmers who enter the crop without verification of material often suffer significant losses.
If imported garlic is used, Parashchenko advises testing it on small plots first.
