Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová Visits Kyiv on Farewell Tour

President Zuzana Čaputová of Slovakia arrived in Kyiv on May 10 for what she described as a “farewell” visit, during which she brought news of Slovakia’s continued support for Ukraine

This marks her fourth visit to Ukraine during her presidency and her third since the onset of the war.

Announcing her visit on Facebook, Čaputová expressed her sentiments about arriving during her presidential tenure's conclusion, pleased to bring positive updates regarding Slovak assistance to Ukraine. Her press secretary, Martin Stryzynets, confirmed the visit to the CTK news agency but did not provide specific details about her schedule.

Slovak media reported that Čaputová is conducting farewell visits as her term ends in mid-June. She highlighted the recent successful Slovak fundraising efforts that raised €4 million for the purchase of artillery shells for the Ukrainian military. The announcement was made during her train journey from Poland to Ukraine.

During her stay, Čaputová is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other officials. Her visit contrasts with the stance of Slovakia's current government under Prime Minister Robert Fico, who halted military supplies to Ukraine from state reserves after assuming office in fall 2023.

The President's visit to Kyiv will be followed by her final presidential trip to the Czech Republic. She will be succeeded by Petr Pellegrini, who won the recent presidential election against diplomat Ivan Korchko. Unlike her, Čaputová did not seek re-election.
