On May 11, during a joint briefing of presidents Zuzana Caputova and Andrzej Duda in Bratislava, a decision was announced to work with countries that have not yet given a positive or at least a final answer regarding granting Ukraine candidate status for joining the European Union.
"This is important for the future of Europe and for peace in Europe. This does not automatically mean full membership — of course, for this you will need to meet several criteria. But we believe that granting candidate status is a natural gesture in the difficult situation in which Ukraine finds itself now," Zuzanna Caputova, president of Slovakia.
The president of Poland did not forget to remind in his speech that Ukraine is fighting not only for its borders and its people but also for the life of Europe.
“We know that right now, it is essential for Ukrainian society to feel that they are accepted in the West. That is why granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate country is so important. We have no doubt that Ukraine should receive this status as soon as possible, and we Let's try to convince colleagues," Andrzej Duda.
We remind you that on May 9, Ukraine completed part 2 of the EU questionnaire for obtaining the status of a candidate for EU membership.
