The memorandum between Energoatom and NuScale Power sets out the intentions of Ukraine and the United States to jointly study the possibility of replacing coal-fired thermal power plants with small nuclear reactors. This step will increase the maneuverability of the general investing-in-ukraine/business-opportunities/energy/" rel="dofollow">energy system of Ukraine and will have a favorable effect on the ecological background of the country.
NuScale Power will analyze the technology of small modular reactors (SMRs), develop a modernization project with timelines and intermediate results, and launch a licensing and design expertise.
"We will be working with Energoatom on the potential deployment of the NuScale power plant in Ukraine," said NuScale Power CEO John Hopkins.
Cooperation with NuScale Power is extremely beneficial for Ukraine, as this company is a leader in the field of nuclear regulation. In 2020, the company received approval from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and in 2021 received permission to license the NuScale project.
