On August 10, the Ministry of transport, mobility and urban development published information about the launch of a pilot project for a railway expert of 600 tons of Ukrainian corn through Polsky Chelm.
Spanish rail operator Renfe Mercancías sent a train from Madrid with 25 40-foot containers for the transport of bulk agricultural products. The train moves along a route with a length of 2.400 km: Madrid - Ludwigshafen - Duisburg - Lodz - Chelm (25 km from the border with Ukraine), and the return - Chelm - Lodz - Duisburg - Barcelona and Tunisia (Spain).
"The project aims to demonstrate the technical and economic viability of grain rail transport as an alternative to maritime transport in a time marked by the war in Ukraine and port incidents," MITMA.
The train will arrive in Chelm around the 4th week of August and will be delivered to Spain in the first week of September. Renfe Mercancías will also provide its 252 locomotives to facilitate traffic from Le Soler (France) to Barcelona.
