Spain Supported the North Atlantic Integration of Ukraine

Already 21 states have signed a declaration of support for Ukraine in its aspirations to become a NATO member

On July 1, during negotiations between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez, the parties signed a declaration supporting Ukraine's accession to NATO.

"Spain reiterates its support for NATO's open door policy, in line with the NATO Strategic Vision 2022 and the NATO Madrid Summit Declaration", text of the declaration.

The document states that Spain supports Ukraine's North Atlantic plans and proposes to create a Ukraine-NATO Council a platform for coordinating international efforts to assist Ukraine on its way to the Alliance.

Today, 21 countries have already signed similar declarations with Ukraine; formerly Canada. The next NATO summit in Vilnius is considered one of the most important since the Cold War. And Ukraine has every reason to count on an invitation to membership in the Alliance.
