State Anthem of Ukraine

The National Anthem of Ukraine is one of the main state symbols of Ukraine, along with the flag and coat of arms

The national anthem is the song Ukraine’s glory and will have not yet died; lyrics by Pavlo Chubynskyy, music by Mykhailo Verbytskyy. The Verkhovna Rada approved the official musical version on January 15, 1992, the law authorised the text of the anthem of Ukraine On the national anthem of Ukraine on March 6, 2003.

The date of creation of the song Ukraine’s glory and will have not yet died remains debatable. For a long time, it was believed that it was created in 1862-1863, but there are any relevant scientific arguments. The text of Pavlo Chubynskyy in Galicia (Western region of Ukraine) has first published in the December issue of the magazine Meta (Goal), which was actually published around January 15, 1864. It probably inspired Fr. Mykhailo (or the Przemyśl Hromada commissioned him) to write a patriotic song. Although, it is possible that Verbytskyy took advantage of the Transdnipro publication of the text. After its publication in Meta magazine, the song Ukraine’s glory and will have not yet died gained great popularity among the conscious youth of Galicia.

The first performance of Ukraine’s glory and will have not yet died as an anthem took place on March 10, 1865, in Przemyśl as the closing number of a concert dedicated to Taras Shevchenko, conducted by Anatolii Vahnyanin.
