State Compensation for Destroyed Housing in Ukraine

The state launched the social program "Ukraine is Home" to process requests for compensation for lost living space

As of mid-January 2023, Russian shells destroyed more than 600.000 houses in Ukraine. More than 2.4 million Ukrainians were left homeless and have nowhere to return. For such Ukrainians, 3 options have been created: the opportunity to submit a claim for reimbursement at Diia, the Reconstruction of Ukraine channel at United24, and the new Ukraine is Home program. UIH is a joint project of the Ministry of communities, territories and infrastructure development of Ukraine and UNHCR. The mechanism for resolving issues related to the repair and compensation of lost housing is based on draft law No 7198, which creates a map of recipients and the amount of compensation.

Basic principles of Ukraine is Home:

  • Priority compensation for vulnerable people, veterans and war victims;
  • Housing reconstruction using environmentally friendly resources and energy-efficient practices;
  • Civil protection of communities.

Architects from Japan, Chile and Great Britain have already joined the restoration of Ukrainian cities.
