The Monument “Reunification of Ukraine with Russia” in Kyiv Was Dismantled

During the dismantling of the monument, the head of the bronze “Russian worker” symbolically fell off

On April 26, a Soviet monument to what had never been — the reunification of Ukraine and Russia — was removed in Kyiv. The composition of the memorial is 2 bronze men (Ukrainian and Russian) who hold the coat of arms of the USSR above their heads. This communist relic of the past, disfiguring the modern landscape of democratic Kyiv, was finally removed.
During the dismantling of the “Russian” part of the monument, the head fell off and rolled with a roar on the marble floor. Only a lazy Ukrainian did not joke about this (although Ukrainians are not a lazy nation).

"Symbolically, the "friendship of nations" head flew off at the first shake. Just like in life," people's deputy Oleksii Honcharenko.

“Russia marked its attitude towards Ukraine with a barbaric desire to destroy our state and peaceful Ukrainians. 8 meters of metal of the so-called "friendship of 2 nations" will be dismantled. And what is symbolic — when they tried to lift the sculpture with a crane, the head of a Russian worker fell off,” Volodymyr Klitschko, mayor of Kyiv.

Separately, we want to tell you about the titanium Arch of the friendship of nations (members of the USSR), under which the dismantled monument was. After the Russian attack on Ukraine, activists from Kyiv, whose names we will not name, painted a crack on the arch. Now this arch symbolizes not the friendship of nations but the fact that “friendship” has cracked. For almost 9 years, the crack has not been intentionally removed because it reflects the truth. Now this arch will be renamed the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People and will be illuminated with the colors of the Ukrainian flag. In the process of decommunization of Ukraine, 460 objects will be renamed.

“In general, we plan to dismantle about 60 more monuments, bas-reliefs, signs associated with the Soviet Union and Russia in the capital,” Volodymyr Klitschko.
