Austrian president Alexander Van der Bellen and Bundestag vice president Katrin Goring-Eckardt arrived in Kyiv this morning. As president Van der Bellen said in his address before leaving for Kyiv, "this trip is a gesture for peace, a sign of solidarity with Ukrainians."
Arrived in Kyiv. After almost one year of the "war, Ukraine is not forgotten. Together with president Zelenskyy and the brave people of Ukraine – we stand for European values," Alexander Van der Bellen.
The president and his team are now in Bucha. Specifically – near the church of St Andrew. Ukrainians know this place not as a holy land, but as a place where the Russians built a mass grave for 900 murdered Ukrainians.
"Here in Bucha, I mourn for every single life destroyed by this terrible war of aggression. These crimes against humanity, against everything we stand for, must not be forgotten and must not go unpunished," the president of Austria.
The vice president Katrin Goring-Eckardt has also arrived in Ukraine and is expected to spend a few days here.
"Kyiv. I arrived here today on the night train. Ukrainians defend their country and our common freedom. I admire their courage. In the next few days I would like to get an idea of the reconstruction, the humanitarian situation and the difficult everyday life on site," Katrin Goring-Eckardt.
Earlier, the minister of development and infrastructure of Germany Svenja Schulze was in Odesa with a similar mission.
