On June 28, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Unity. Traditionally, this holiday is a symbol of the national unity of our amazing country, which is geographically divided into 2 parts by the Dnipro river. On the Day of the Unity of Ukraine, the action United Ukraine was organized, which was joined by residents of Kyiv, as well as internally displaced persons from Kherson, Mariupol, and other so far occupied cities. More than 200 participants lined up on the Park bridge over the Dnipro river and unfurled the Ukrainian flag, 430 meters long.
The organizer of the action is Oleksandr Kniga, a man who was forced to leave his home in Kherson and seek refuge in Kyiv because of the war. Oleksandr is the director and artistic director of Mykola Kulish Kherson Academic theatre. The organizer said that the purpose of the action is to unite Ukrainians, as well as to support those who are currently under Russian occupation.
"In this way, we want to send a message to people in Kherson, Mariupol, Melitopol and other cities that they have not been forgotten. Sooner or later, they will be released. And we are here, in the rear, each in his place - we are doing everything we can for this," Oleksandr Kniga.
As statistics show, almost all registered participants of the action are Ukrainians from Mariupol and Kherson.
"I realized that I simply cannot not come here. We are united by love for our Motherland, our flag. It seems to me that with this, we showed not only the unity between the left and right banks but also the unity of all Ukrainians. Even this action is a small contribution to our victory. Because she gives hope that everything will be fine and we will win," Ms. Svetlana, a participant of the action, a Ukrainian from Mariupol.
During the action over the Dnipro, the national anthem of Ukraine played loudly.
