On November 19, Rishi Sunak arrived in Kyiv and held talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to the president, the dialogue with the prime minister was highly informative and valuable for both sides.
"First of all, I thank the prime minister for his principled support of Ukraine and for the maximum constructiveness in our negotiations. Today we discussed all the important issues for our countries and global security," Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The president informed the minister of all the details of targeted Russian missile attacks on the energy structure of Ukraine. Today, more than 50% of Ukraine's energy system has been damaged, which is evidence of the "extremely cynical Russian anti-European, anti-human policy." It has long been known that Ukraine produces enough energy to cover not only state needs but also all-European ones. Our electricity has already started to be sold on the European market, particularly in Moldova. Due to Russian terror, not only the Ukrainian but also the European energy structure was in danger.
The parties discussed the instruments for ensuring the energy security of Ukraine, as well as price limits for exporting Russian energy resources.
During a press conference, Rishi Sunak announced providing 50 million funding to Ukraine to strengthen the protection of the Ukrainian sky.
"The UK firm stands with Ukraine as it fights to end this barbarous war. This is why we are committing an extra £50 million funding to strengthen Ukrainian air defence," Rishi Sunak.
The parties discussed the Ukrainian 10-point peace formula, which Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed during his participation in the G20 summit.
"One of the advantages of our peace formula is the opportunity for partners to show leadership in the implementation of its points. We invite our friends to prove themselves in what they are strongest in. On this basis, today we discussed the possibility of Great Britain to become a co-creator of peace in Ukraine and all of Europe," Zelenskyy.
The president of Ukraine thanked Rishi Sunak for the reliable participation of Great Britain in ensuring the food security of the world (grain export initiative and the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian project) and in the development of the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine. In turn, minister Sunak noted that the courage of the Ukrainian people is an inspiration for the whole world.
"We will continue to provide assistance while you put pressure on Russian troops, while your infrastructure, your homes are being destroyed," Rishi Sunak.
The minister added that the UK is ready to provide Ukraine with additional military and humanitarian assistance (including winter equipment for soldiers) and training of military doctors. Therefore, the state will allocate an additional £16 million to Ukraine. Sunak added that next year the UK, as before, plans to host the UkraineRecovery international conference.
