UK Trains Over 60,000 Ukrainian Soldiers; Commits to Military Aid and Drone Production

The UK’s Defense Minister, Grant Shepps, announced that Britain has trained more than 60,000 Ukrainian servicemen since the onset of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2014

This statement was made during his speech about the UK's defense plans, as reported by Ukrinform.

Shepps highlighted that around 10 countries collaborated to facilitate the training in Britain, underscoring the collective effort in supporting Ukraine. He anticipates 2024 to be a pivotal year, potentially determining the fate of Ukraine as a nation. He also noted that 2024 will witness a significant democratic event, with almost half of the world's population expected to participate in elections. Additionally, it will be a crucial year for the UK to decide on the future of its national defense.

In the context of the recently signed security agreement in Kyiv, the British minister pointed out that it includes a provision of £2.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine. Of this, £200 million is allocated for drone production. Shepps emphasized the UK's role as a leading supplier of drones, which will not only aid Ukraine but also bolster the UK's unmanned aerial vehicle capabilities domestically.

The signing of this security cooperation agreement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak during the latter's visit to Kyiv on January 12 reflects the deepening defense relationship between the two nations.
