Ukraine Adopts Lobbying Law Fulfilling EU Accession Requirement

The Ukrainian Parliament has passed legislation on lobbying, marking a significant step towards meeting one of the European Commission’s prerequisites for initiating discussions on EU membership for Ukraine

This law, set to take effect no later than January 1, 2025, establishes clear definitions and guidelines for lobbying activities, including the rights and responsibilities of lobbyists, ethical standards, and the creation of a Transparency Register managed by the National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACP). This register aims to bring transparency to lobbying, which has previously operated in the shadows, fostering corruption risks. With this move, Ukraine fulfills almost the last of the European Commission's recommendations for starting EU accession negotiations, emphasizing the nation's commitment to aligning its legislative framework with European standards.
