Several Ukrainian airports remain technically prepared to resume operations once a decision is made to reopen airspace. The aviation sector is maintaining equipment, personnel qualifications and operational procedures despite the fourth year of full-scale war.
According to aviation authorities, Boryspil and Lviv airports are among the facilities kept in proper technical condition. Other airports have also been inspected, with recommendations prepared for organizational and technical steps needed before the return of civilian flights.
Security is the decisive condition
The main obstacle is not only infrastructure. Any reopening would require a security model that protects passengers, airlines, aircraft and airport facilities from missile and drone risks. Airport operators have prepared emergency procedures for high-risk conditions, but operational readiness does not replace air-defense and political decisions.
For business, even partial reopening would matter. Civil flights could improve logistics, investor access and travel connections with partners. It would also signal that Ukraine is moving toward gradual normalization of transport links.
Still, the process will likely be cautious. After any decision to open airspace, additional inspections would be needed to confirm the real condition of airports, runways, navigation systems and emergency response capacity.
