On August 24, during Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to Kyiv on Ukraine’s Independence Day, Ukraine and Canada signed a landmark agreement on joint production of defense products. The deal was formalized with the participation of the defense ministers and leaders of both countries.
Key Provisions of the Agreement
The agreement is designed to:

Ensure stable and continuous supply of defense products;
-
Simplify the creation of Ukrainian companies in Canada and streamline joint projects;
-
Promote technology exchange in advanced weapons and equipment.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal highlighted that this cooperation will help provide the Armed Forces with modern equipment, while strengthening resilience against Russian aggression.
Broader Cooperation Context
Beyond defense production, Ukraine and Canada also agreed to synchronize sanctions against Russia, reinforcing a united front with international partners.
Investment Signal
For foreign investors and defense industry stakeholders, the agreement marks:
-
Opportunities in co-production of advanced systems and dual-use technologies;
-
Market entry pathways through Canadian-Ukrainian joint ventures;
