Ukraine and Iceland Conclude Security Agreement

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Prime Minister of Iceland Bjarni Benediktsson signed an Agreement on cooperation in the field of security and long-term support

This was reported by the press service of the head of state.

According to the document, Iceland committed to providing comprehensive and long-term economic, humanitarian, and defense support to Ukraine, as well as promoting Ukraine's future membership in the EU and NATO.

Key Points of the Agreement:

  • Financial Support: During the years 2024-2028, Iceland will allocate at least 4 billion Icelandic kroner (almost $30 million) annually to support Ukraine, with support continuing throughout the term of the agreement.

  • Defense Support: Iceland will finance, purchase, and supply defense materials and equipment to Ukraine. The country will also cooperate with Ukraine to develop its defense industry.

  • Transport of Military Cargo: Iceland will continue transporting military cargo and equipment from NATO allies to Ukraine using chartered cargo planes. Special attention will be given to supporting and equipping women in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

  • Support for Peace and Sanctions: The agreement includes sections on supporting the Ukrainian peace formula, imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation, providing compensation for damages, and ensuring accountability for the aggressor.

  • Infrastructure and Energy Security: Iceland will assist in strengthening Ukraine's social and civil infrastructure, particularly in the fields of education and energy security.

  • Diplomatic Relations: Iceland will enhance its diplomatic presence in Kyiv to deepen cooperation with Ukrainian government institutions, parliament, civil society, and the private sector.

This agreement signifies Iceland's strong commitment to supporting Ukraine in various domains and strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
