Ukraine and the International Bank Signed Agreements Worth $411 mln

On Monday, September 13, Ukraine and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (part of the World Bank Group) signed two loan agreements totaling $411 mln

The first agreement provides for the construction of energy storage systems and solar plants at Ukrhydroenergo's hydroelectric power plants. Under this program, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Clean Technology Fund will provide loans worth $177mln and $34mln, respectively.

The second agreement is for $200 mln.

Within the five-year project "Improvement of higher education in Ukraine for the sake of results", in particular, they will finance equipment modernization, purchase of laboratories, some repairs of universities (including united) and digital infrastructure for distance learning.

There are plans to modernize the automated higher education management system, introduce a national student survey and a unified electronic system for competitive state funding of research and development and the like.

"I am glad that today we have the opportunity to sign two agreements. Critical projects. I am grateful to our ministries, which together with the World Bank carried out the work and preparation of these projects, and thanks to the heads of enterprises, who did the work to make the signing of these documents possible," said Shmygal.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is an international financial and credit institution providing assistance to countries from Central Europe to Central Asia for market reforms, active integration of the economies of these countries into international economic relations.
