Ukraine annually produces huge volumes of biomethane natural gas. It is environmentally friendly both at the production stage and at the use and decomposition stage.
"Ukraine has tremendous potential for biogas production — up to 8 billion ㎥ biogas per year. This is a very ambitious goal for the next 10 years," Serhii Makohon, CEO of the Ukrainian Gas transportation system.
In October of last year, president Zelenskyy announced the beginning of the creation of a base for the development and introduction of bioethanol into the state energy system and the complete transition to eco-fuel by 2023.
On August 2, the National commission, which carries out state regulation in the spheres of energy and communal services of Ukraine, adopted a resolution On amendments to the code of the gas transportation system and the code of gas distribution systems. This regulation is a step towards the introduction of gas, which is produced by processing biological animal waste, into the national gas system.
On July 22, the parliament of Ukraine adopted the procedure for the operation of the Biomethane register.
"Thus, at the state level, the efforts of all — the parliament, the government, the Ministry of energy, the State energy efficiency agency, NCCSRSECS, have been accumulated for the introduction of the biomethane market in Ukraine," reports NCCSRSECS.
The development of biomethane production and the transition to replacing blue gas with green gas is a tool for decarbonization and the European path of Ukraine.
