Ukraine eases mandatory verification rules for business equipment

The updated metrology list should reduce maintenance costs while preserving controls for sensitive devices

Ukraine is changing part of its metrology regulation for companies that use measuring equipment in daily operations. The government has approved a resolution that narrows the list of devices subject to mandatory verification.

For many businesses, the change means fewer routine checks and lower maintenance costs. The reform is aimed at reducing non-productive expenses, easing administrative pressure and bringing Ukrainian rules closer to European regulatory practice.

What changes for companies

The deregulation primarily matters for manufacturers, logistics operators, energy companies, laboratories, construction firms, retailers and pharmaceutical businesses that maintain large equipment inventories. Some categories of meters, leveling instruments and electrical-parameter measuring devices will no longer require the same mandatory verification regime.

At the same time, the state is not removing control where measurement directly affects safety or consumer protection. Stricter requirements will remain for thermohygrometers used in trade and pharmacy because they record storage conditions for food and medicines.

Operational impact

The resolution does not directly change accounting, tax reporting or audit procedures. Still, it can affect company budgets, equipment servicing plans and internal documents on metrological control. Businesses will need to review their inventories and separate devices that remain regulated from those removed from the mandatory list.

The new rules will take effect six months after official publication. This transition period gives companies time to update internal registers, adjust maintenance schedules and prepare procurement teams for a more flexible compliance model.
