Ukraine is preparing to apply European-style rules for gas market operations. The national energy regulator approved changes covering cross-border capacity allocation and tariffs at gas transmission interconnection points.
The new approach introduces joint auctions for cross-border capacity and moves tariff calculations into energy units. Updated rules are expected from July 2026, with the new gas year covered from October 1.
Integration through procedures
Companies will work under agreements with the Ukrainian gas transmission operator and adjacent operators in the European Union or Moldova.
The change is technical, but it can reduce friction for traders and make planning across borders more predictable.
The goal is to make gas trade across borders closer to the rules used in European markets.
This is another step in aligning Ukrainian energy infrastructure with Europe through both physical links and daily market procedures.
